Privacy Policy

Effective July 21, 2026

Storyhop is a read-aloud, choose-your-own-adventure app for children, published by Sky Forward Design. This policy describes what data the app does and does not handle. Storyhop has no user accounts, no advertising, and no behavioral profiling, and is built to be safe for children under 13.

Who this app is for

Storyhop is designed to be used by children under 13, in a parent- or caregiver-supervised context. We treat all users as if they may be children and design our data handling for that case.

What we collect

Storyhop has no user accounts. It does not ask for a name, email, age, address, or any other identifier. It does not request advertising IDs, contacts, photos, location, or camera access.

Two narrowly-scoped categories of data may leave the device, both solely to support the internal operations of the app:

  • Aggregate product analytics. Counts of which adventures are started, which segments are reached, which choices are made, which bundles are purchased, and where in a story sessions end. Each event carries only opaque content identifiers and bucketed counters. No persistent user identifier is sent, and no transcript, microphone audio, name, age, address, advertising ID, IP address, or raw purchase token is sent.
  • Anonymous content & purchase requests. When a parent unlocks a bundle, the app sends the App Store or Google Play receipt to a small server function so it can verify the receipt and return a download link. That function does not receive any Storyhop-side identifier.

We do not link any of this data to a child. We do not use it for advertising, profile-building, or contacting any specific user, and we do not sell it or share it with third parties for marketing.

What stays on the device

The following data exists only in the app’s local storage on the user’s device and is never uploaded:

  • Story progress. Which adventure the user is in, which point they are at, and the path they took to get there.
  • Entitlements and purchase proofs. Which bundles have been unlocked, plus the receipts needed to restore downloads after a reinstall.

Deleting or reinstalling the app removes all of this data, as does clearing app data through iOS or Android settings.

Microphone and speech recognition

Storyhop plays narration aloud and lets the user answer choices by voice. It uses the operating system’s built-in speech recognizer (Apple’s on iOS, the system recognizer on Android), which runs on-device on modern phones.

  • We do not record or store microphone audio. Audio is streamed directly into the operating system’s recognizer and discarded when it returns a result.
  • We do not persist transcripts. The recognized text is used only to match the user’s answer against the on-screen choices and is then discarded. It is never stored, never logged in the released app, and never included in any analytics event or other network request.
  • We do not attach any user identifier to speech requests, because the app has none.

If a parent does not want the app to use the microphone, they can deny the permission and answer every choice by tapping the on-screen buttons instead.

Audio narration

Narration audio is pre-generated and shipped inside the app. It plays entirely on the device, with no audio streaming and no telemetry.

Third-party services

Storyhop relies on a small number of third-party services, each limited to a specific purpose:

  • Apple App Store and Google Play. Process the app install and any in-app purchases under their own privacy policies. Storyhop does not receive personal data from those stores beyond the opaque receipt tokens used to verify a purchase.
  • Google Cloud. Hosts add-on adventure packs and receives the verification and aggregate-analytics requests described above. These requests do not carry a Storyhop user identifier, device identifier, speech transcript, microphone audio, or raw purchase token.

Purchases

In-app purchases are processed by Apple’s StoreKit and Google Play Billing. Storyhop verifies the resulting receipts to unlock content and does not collect any personal information beyond the device-tied receipts that Apple and Google already handle.

Data retention and deletion

The aggregate analytics described above are stored as daily counters that are not tied to any individual child or device. On-device data (story progress, entitlements, and purchase proofs) is retained until the user clears the app’s data or uninstalls the app.

Changes to this policy

Material changes are reflected in the effective date at the top of this page. If a change introduces a new category of data, affected users will see a clear in-app notice before it takes effect.
